The End of Sam Cap?

April 17, 2017

CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON #21 brings all of Sam Cap's political and personal troubles to a head—so he quits. We know Steve Cap quit more than a few times but he always came back. Wonder what Marvel has in mind for the latest replacement Cap? Death? Obscurity? Made head of the Thunderbolts? Your guess is as good as mine!

Meanwhile, in a historic mood we've added comments and reviews to CAPTAIN AMERICA #425-430, the first half of the epic “Fighting Chance” storyline! And by coincidence, #428 introduces the original Americop, whose descendants are part of the current series!

The End of the Red Skull (Again)!

April 10, 2017

The latest Steve Cap issue, CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #15 , has a startling development: the Red Skull dies! I know it isn't the first time—and this isn't the original Red Skull (who has been dead since the CAPTAIN AMERICA: REBORN event)--just the new Skull introduced in UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 in 2012! But it's still an epic moment, check it out! Check it all out!

Then Rob Johnson sends us a tie-in issue, THUNDERBOLTS Vol. 4 #11 ! Here, Bucky Barnes discovers that his own past was changed as well as Cap's and he doesn't like it!

Rob also fills in an issue from an earlier event: DARK REIGN! NEW AVENGERS (2005 series) #49 , wherein Norman Osborn and the Skrulls take turns causing trouble for Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, with Bucky Cap on hand!

Inhuman Error!

April 3, 2017

A lesser-known miniseries of sorts was published in 2015! Called INHUMAN ERROR, it featured Golden Age hero Red Raven declaring war on the Inhumans and invading New York! And Spider-Man and Captain America (Sam Wilson, with the wings) were caught in the middle! Part one was in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN SPECIAL #1, part two in INHUMANS SPECIAL #1 and part three in ALL-NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA SPECIAL #1 and we've added write-ups on all three for your enjoyment!

There was a new issue this week, AVENGERS #5.1, wrapping up this miniseries relating an unseen adventure for the early days of the original new Avengers from 1965. It's the new Avenger X versus the rest of the team and the team loses—but not for long! Mark Waid penned this nostalgic look back at a simpler time!

Villains in the Spotlight!

March 27, 2017

The baddies are big this time 'round! CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #14 is heavily focused on the new Madame Hydra, she of the literal tentacles on the cover! Herein she assembles a group of lesser-known villains to be the new Hydra High Council and the prospects are grim for the world in the upcoming SECRET EMPIRE!

On an older note we also add CAPTAIN AMERICA #424 from 1994, which puts a sympathetic spin on Sidewinder, founder of the Serpent Society and now a man desperate to help his seriously ill daughter! Will Cap believe his sob story? Will you? Click on the link and see!

A Grim and Intense Story

March 20, 2017

CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON #20 continues Nick Spencer's inflammatory story line with Sam Cap fighting for justice in the middle of a racially-charged situation—and here things get worse. It's one of the darkest plots in recent memory, with no alleviating humor or silver lining.

On a much lighter note (only involving massive property damaged and loss of life), Marvel's mini-epic MONSTERS UNLEASHED wraps up with issue #5! Giant monsters bashing each other to victory! And there's an ongoing series of the same name to come, though I dare not follow!

Meanwhile, on an even more lighter (lightier?) note Rob Johnson presents U.S.AVENGERS #4 serves as a parody of MONSTER UNLEASHED with the patriotic team taking on a monstrous Deadpool! Whoa!

And big things are coming to the Marvel e-Libraries! What? Julio's working on changes to this site. As well as being glossier and easier to navigate the biggest immediate difference will be that this Library and others (Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor) will be part of one big site, opening the way for more add-ons. You can join us in our quest to celebrate the wonders of the Marvel Universe!
